Australia is home to some of the earths most dangerous conditions and the most unique wildlife, both in a relationship that can turn sour with the added impact from humans. During July 2019 - March 2020, Australia recorded its worst bushfire event (measured on fatalities and area of damage), which got the title of "Black Summer". The Black Summer fires ravaged the Australian landscape, in NSW alone 5.4 million hectares burned sending recording breaking temperatures across the country. Smoke from the fires was responsible for 450 deaths, while2 6 fatalities were directly caused by the fires. In total, over 18 million hectares of land burnt, creating devastating losses for biodiversity.

Black Summer made global news, with essential aid and international firefighters joining the fight to support the Australian people, wildlife and nature, joining forces with local organisations and communities.

Rotary was one of the amazing local communities that stepped in to raise much needed funds and support during the bushfires and aftermath. Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves (learn more about Rotary).

To help the Australian community we designed and donated an exclusive line of merchandise to help raise funds and allow people to remember. Partnering with communities like the local Rotary club of Kingscliff to raise funds for the Currumbin wildlife hospital to support their Koala program.

We love the work of Currumbin wildlife sanctuary in protecting and serving the Australian wildlife and is an essential place to visit when you travel to Australia. Learn more about Currumbin wildlife sanctuary and if you would like to lend your support donate to them here.
